I was in the Student Union building studying for a math exam my freshman year in college when the news that JFK was shot. We did go to the class.

About halfway through the exam, another professor walked in as just said "the President is dead" and walked out.

Our Prof said to continue

a large group of us closed our exam books and walked out, we all failed the exam

Watched TV the entire week through the burial

Times are sure different.

Sophomore in High School. Walking through the hallway between classes. Saw a couple of female students agitated and crying. Wondered why. Arrived in our next classroom. As we settled in the teacher announced Kennedy had been shot and died.

And so began the early 60's. A decade of violence and turmoil. The assassination of the President, his brother and Martin Luther King. The Civil Rights movement and the Vietnam War. The innocence of 1950's America was gone forever.

Too young to understand the significance of an assassination, but I do have a very specific visual memory of where I was...in which classroom, which desk, the weather, what I was wearing. Someone from the school office came into the room and spoke to the teacher. She looked very strange, stopped the lesson, and told us something terrible had happened and that we were all going home for the rest of the day. At first everyone looked excited, but we were all told to be quiet; no running, talking, playing while waiting for our parents to drive us home. Usually the front of the school was a happy noisy place after classes ended for the day. It was very strange to see everyone so silent.

I think you are less interested in history than calling Democrats "dumbocrats". What does that have to do with JFK?
I had dropped out of UC Berkeley the previous week and was working at my first full time job at the US Geological Survey. You know who couldn't answer this question? GHW Bush who claimed he couldn't recall. JFK was more representative of the Democratic party of Bernie Sanders than the Democratic party of the day. He wanted to dismantle the CIA, reform the Federal Reserve, withdraw from Vietnam, promote integration and seek detente with the USSR. All of that made him a target for the right wing, who eliminated him, his brother and MLK.
Times had changed by 1970. When the shootings happened at Kent State, our school closed down and gave everyone the option of skipping final exams and receiving a Pass on every subject for the spring semester. The Pass didn't count towards the student's GPA. About 90% of the students took the option.

I was in 5th grade and was a school crossing guard. School had just ended for the day and I had just taken up my post near the playground. Suddenly all the girls were crying, so I knew something was wrong. Got home and everyone was glued to the TV.

Health class in HS taught by our macho, burly football coach. He was close to tears and that effected all of us equally. We had a classroom intercom system so they put the news on over the intercom and told everyone to stay in their same classroom all afternoon. You could almost hear a pin drop - everyone was in shock.

I replied to the OP before you removed it from the original post.

I didn't exist. Why do people tend to assume that everyone knows where they were or that they were even born when talking about an event almost 60 years ago? And the word is assassinated. Not whatever this is: assasanated.

I was in elementary school. The teacher in the classroom next to ours opened the door to our classroom and said "The president has been shot. Say a prayer for him." Then our teacher asked if anyone had a transistor radio. One boy had one and she told him to put it on so we could listen to the news. We listened for a while until we heard "John Fitzgerald Kennedy is dead." One girl started crying and the rest of us were in shock.

At the end of the school day, I went home and wondered if my mother had heard. She did hear about it, too, and she was crying.

The next day, since my Dad had bought the tickets well in advance, my siblings and I went with him to see our first (and only) opera "Madame Butterfly". Even though the show had been sold out, less than half of the theater was occupied. To this day, I remember the name of the theater, which ended up being torn down...
